To get ahead of the obvious, black metal is a very silly genre. The evil pseudonyms, the corpse paint... what can I say? I love this stuff.
It's best to leave the pontificating to Set, but from their very first show, Mired lit up my brain like little else. Imagery and ideation came to me easily since I find their music so creatively inspiring. The fact they're all very good dudes doesn't hurt either.
Nose to the grindstone.
Through this project, I explored possibilities of databending, geometry nodes, and real-time visual programming - all in service of symbiotically connecting to the music and movement.
Further brainstorming with the guys was excellent - their creative perspectives are a big part of why they rise above common tropes of mediocre black metal.

I was given a great amount of free rein on this project, and it means a lot that they trusted me to execute on their vision. Actually, I feel super grateful that I know these lovely people at all!

At every Mired show, you can find me dancing stiffly and wiggling my hands - that's what I look like when I'm coming up with my little ideas. As they go off on their tour throughout the Bible Belt, I'm thrilled that my work gets to join them.
