Les Nocturnes 2025
Project Type: Collaborative Projection Experience
Duration: ~15:00

During an intensive two week course, our team designed and developed three beautiful, immersive projection installations - all inspired by the beauty and cultural history of Provence.
Fourteen days in Lacoste!
The Les Nocturnes project was first introduced in 2022 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of SCAD's Lacoste campus. Every year since, Professor Matt Van Rys has traveled to France with small teams of students to create light projection shows that captivate and delight. The turnaround was tight, but together? We made it work!
What are our skills again?
When it came to production, we strategized to ensure everyone played to their strengths. Trying to be an individualist would have been absolutely pointless. One of us did illustrations, another sound design, stylized 3D elements, particle effects - then everyone's elements layered and blended to create the final shot.
Becoming fast friends was vital.
I've said before that I'm very lucky to have enjoyed the company of my teammates, because we would often spend upwards of fourteen hours a day in the same room together. I'm especially grateful to certain members of the team for providing much needed sanity breaks.

In summation...
In my opinion, Les Nocturnes was a resounding success. I feel very proud that our team's work was approved to be showcased every Friday evening for the rest of the summer, but in addition to that, the experience was extremely personally gratifying. I knew at the end of each day that I had worked hard to create something big and meaningful with my peers, and that sense of fulfillment is invaluable to me.
